Purpose
Launched in 2017, the Merge Cube brings augmented reality (AR) learning to the palm of your hand by triggering a display of interactive 3D AR holograms. When viewed through a smartphone or tablet camera, students can hold a beating heart, explore the solar system, examine ancient artifacts, and more. The Merge content library offers over 1,000 pieces of K-12 content, and users can even upload and view their own 3D objects. Merge describes the Cube as 'The hologram you hold in your hand' – and it's changing how students connect with and visualize abstract topics.
Where We See Impact
By bridging the physical and digital worlds, the Merge Cube helps students grasp difficult concepts in ways traditional methods simply can't match. Students become excited when interacting with dinosaur fossils or visualizing Earth's weather patterns in 3D. Teachers report higher engagement levels and improved learning retention when abstract concepts are transformed into AR objects that can be viewed from all angles.By providing a fun, hands-on way for kids to engage with educational content across various subjects, the Merge Cube can help make learning more interactive, memorable, and accessible, fostering a lifelong love of discovery and exploration.
Accessing This Experience
The Merge Cube purchase includes an initial subscription period of the company's STEM apps for mobile phones, downloadable via Apple's App Store or Google Play. Merge EDU offers four main apps: Merge Explorer (featuring crowd favorites like virtual frog dissection), Merge Object Viewer, Merge Hologlobe, and Merge Creator for building your own AR content. Schools can purchase educational licenses for classrooms and labs directly from Merge. The platform integrates with popular 3D creation programs including Tinkercad and Minecraft.
